Leeds Carnegie are pleased to announce that back row Rob Baldwin will remain with the club for the new Greene King IPA Championship season.
Baldwin, the former captain of Wharfedale, made a huge impact with Leeds Carnegie after during last season. As a director of his family business, his move to full time rugby was always due to be reviewed during the close season however, following discussions with Director of Rugby Chris Gibson, the back rower will continue to be part of the club's plans moving forward.
Commenting on the news Gibson said, "We are delighted to have retained Rob for next season as part of our squad. He is extremely popular with the rest of the squad and was impressive on the field at the back end of last season. We have always understood Rob's position as regards his commitments away from rugby and we have come to an arrangement that suits all parties. Rob will have a pre-season programme with us and will feature in the pre-season games. We are fortunate to have a strong back row however should Rob be required, he will be available to James Lowes. Rob's character and attitude are exactly the qualities we look for in players at our club and we are delighted we have retained his services."
Baldwin added, "I would like to thank the club and in particular Chris Gibson and Tommy McGee in allowing me time at the end of the season to come to a decision. I very much enjoyed being part of the squad last season and there is a tremendous potential for this group to go even further next season. If I can help the team in anyway to achieve that goal then I am happy to do so and I look forward to the rest of pre-season and getting ready for a tough campaign."
Yorkshire Carnegie stars Jonah Holmes and Ryan Burrows both missed out at the RPA Players Awards 2016 to Bristol Jack Lam as the Greene King IPA Championship Player of the Year, as voted for by their fellow players.
