Commenting on the announcement Director of Rugby Chris Gibson said, "Through discussions with Josh, he had expressed his intentions to move away from the club next season after his contract expired at the end of the current campaign. Therefore we agreed to release him so he could explore those options further. He leaves with our best wishes and we would like to thank him for his efforts for the club over the last two seasons."
Gibson has also confirmed that new signing James Fitzpatrick from Newcastle Falcons will not be available until next season. Fitzpatrick signed for the club with fellow Falcon scrum half Chris Pilgrim in February however the intention was for the centre to join his new club on loan for the remainder of the season. However, injury problems meant that he was recalled by Newcastle last week to play in their Aviva Premiership clash with Worcester, which now makes him ineligible to play as a loan signing for the remainder of the current campaign. Gibson added, "I know James was looking forward to playing a part in this season for us however we always knew there was a possibility he could be recalled by Newcastle in extreme circumstances, it is unfortunate that those circumstances have arisen. On a positive front, it shows the quality that James possesses and we are looking forward to him being part of our squad next season."
