Academy Structure

JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT SQUAD (UNDER 15)

?Players identified through ERDPP regional training sessions from collated dossier of player information from U14s. Looking at long term potential of premiership players.

?Squad size of ~30-40 players, 8-10 sessions Oct-Dec. 10-12 sessions Feb-May. Playing opportunity in April/May with Northern warm up Festival and RFU northern 12 a side festival.

?Potential changes in squad based upon learning and performance to ensure the correct group of players progress who demonstrate greatest potential.

?ERDPP to backfill squads and replace JDS players with next best identified at assessment events.

?JDS players to progress to U16 JDS or return to ERDPP.

JUNIOR DEVELEPMENT SQUAD (UNDER 16)

?Players identified from JDS U15 for bulk of players, additional opportunities to progress from ERDPP through ERDPP regional training sessions and collated dossier of player information from U14s. Looking at long term potential of premiership players.

?Squad size of ~40-45 players, weekly sessions.

?Playing opportunities in August with RFU festival, February, March/April with Northern warm up Festival and RFU northern 12 a side festival leading into Wellington festival (1 week).

?ERDPP to backfill squads and replace JDS players with next best identified at assessment events.

?Players to be identified for Junior Academy U18 squad as U17 players as well as academy extended group players and county potential players and EDG U17 players.

JUNIOR ACADEMY

?Players identified through JDS sessions and competition as well as EDG extended group training.

?Squad size of ~30-40 players, weekly sessions of 1-3 sessions, playing opportunities through RFU organised festivals, Academy League and friendlies. 2018-19 season to identify opportunities for U17 only friendlies and additional U17 opportunities for extended group.

?U17 extended group ~12-15 players to train once a month with full academy squad in position specific areas and team rugby. These players to continue with EDG and regular rugby playing opportunities as well as county if selected. County coaches invited to observe extended group sessions.

?Players split into RAG identified player registered groups (related to who may also play county rugby) as well as England Academy Players (EAPs) – those identified with the most potential to become professional players at Premiership or International level.

?England to select players for U17 and U18 squads from academy groups (training and playing).

SENIOR ACADEMY 

?The Senior Academy players  train full or part time with the club and have a unique training programme that is designed and monitored by the Academy coaching staff. As well as this training programme the players will gain valuable playing experience through loan clubs in the National Leagues at Wharfedale, Otley, Hull Ionians, Darlington Mowden Park, Huddersfield, Rotherham as well as partnership clubs in the Premiership Shield. In addition through our links with Leeds Beckett University in the BUCS super rugby programme and the University of Leeds.
