Next Up: Yorkshire Carnegie v Newcastle Falcons, Sunday 19th January, Kick off 3pm

Yorkshire Carnegie play their first home game of 2020 against Newcastle Falcons in the Greene King IPA Championship on Sunday 19th January, kick off 3pm.

Newcastle have been the best team in the competition for the first half of the season, winning every game in both the league and Championship Cup. Three league results have seen the Falcons score over 40 points and they have claimed five winning bonus points, but results against sides lower down the division have been closer - a 17-13 win over London Scottish in round one and an 11-6 result away at eleventh placed Bedford Blues.

The last time the two teams met in the Championship was back in the 2012-13 season when the teams battled for a place in the Play Off Final. Newcastle were considered the favourites to win promotion, but Carnegie earned the win and a five point advantage going into the second half thanks to a try from Ryan Burrows.

This season, Yorkshire Carnegie’s ranks have been bolstered by Falcons players. Back rower Guy Graham has made six appearances since debuting against Nottingham at the start of the season while fly half Joel Matavesi has made starting appearances against Coventry and Ealing in the league and Nottingham in the cup.

In the Newcastle squad there are two former Carnegie players, Sam Lockwood and Mark Tampin.
