Yorkshire Carnegie look to kick start league campaign
Yorkshire Carnegie are looking to kick start their Greene King IPA Championship campaign as they return to league action at local rivals Doncaster Knights on Saturday 29th December, kick off 2.15pm, live on Sky Sports.
Since their last league game back on 27th October at Coventry, Yorkshire have secured five wins from six games in the Championship Cup, booking a quarter final home game against Bedford Blues. Director of Rugby Chris Stirling has used the Cup competition to give a number of the club’s new recruits much needed game time in the squad.
Four players will make their Championship debuts at Doncaster. Full back Myles Thoroughgood, second row Fa’atinga Lemalu and back row Cian Romaine are all in the starting line up whilst prop Tom Hill is amongst the replacements.
There is a welcome return to action for Yorkshire Carnegie skipper Richard Mayhew, who has not featured since the opening game of the season. He is amongst the replacements so Pete Lucock will captain the side.
Second row Matt Smith will become only the eighth player in the club’s history to make 100 league appearances. Smith is originally from Royston near Barnsley so it is perhaps fitting that he marks his century for the club in South Yorkshire especially as this season is also part of the coaching team at Rotherham Titans in National Division One.
