Yorkshire Carnegie make double front row swoop

Yorkshire Carnegie Director of Rugby Martyn Wood has recruited two props for the new Greene King IPA Championship season with Tongan international Sione Faletau returning to the club along with loose head prop James Flynn from Sale Sharks.

Faletau, 31, originally joined Yorkshire Carnegie in January 2017 and made thirteen appearances helping the club to the Championship Play Off Final against London Irish. He then joined Bristol where he has made eleven appearances in the last two seasons.  In New Zealand, he played for Counties Manukau, Patumahoe and Canterbury as well as being capped by Tonga.

Sale-born Flynn, 25, was with the Sharks for seven seasons, amassing 55 appearances after making his debut against London Irish in 2012. He also had brief loans at Stockport and Sedgley Park and fought back to full fitness at the end of last season.

Commenting on the signings, Wood said, “We are delighted to have secured two front rowers with experience for next season. Both players were attracted to join us because of the opportunity to combine their playing commitments with beginning their working life outside of rugby. Sione knows the club having previously played here whilst James is excited to get back on the field after a frustrating period on the sidelines. There is a great deal of hard work going on behind the scenes to build the squad and myself and Joe Ford are excited about the calibre of players who are keen to be part of the rebuilding of the club.”
