Joe Ford

Head Coach Ford

Joe Ford returned to Yorkshire Carnegie in August 2019 having agreed a deal to bring the fly half back to the club for a fourth time from Gallagher Premiership side Leicester Tigers as the club's new Head Coach.

The 29-year-old spent the previous two seasons at the Tigers making 23 appearances and scoring 116 points. He originally came through the academy ranks at Emerald Headingley, making his senior debut in 2009 opposite his younger brother George when Leeds hosted Leicester. He moved to Sale Sharks before returning for a second spell under Diccon Edwards in 2011. Two years later he returned to the Premiership with Northampton Saints before a third period at Yorkshire Carnegie under then new coach Bryan Redpath. In total Ford has made 85 appearances for Yorkshire Carnegie so far, scoring 674 points.

The goal kicking back says he is looking forward to the challenge of reviving the fortunes of his old club. He commented, “It is great to be back. I know we are in a tough position at the minute but having spoken with Managing Director Chris Gibson and Director of Rugby Martyn Wood, I was impressed with their plans for the club for this season and beyond. Importantly for me, the move gives me the chance to begin my coaching career, which I am excited about. The chance to play part time whilst still at a high level of rugby is very attractive and I am sure there will be other players, either who want the opportunity to test themselves at a higher level or those who are looking at life after rugby from the Premiership, who will relish the opportunity we are able to offer at Yorkshire Carnegie.”

Director of Rugby Martyn Wood added, “I am delighted to have Joe back on board at the club. He is someone who played for the club when we were in the Premiership and has vast experience of playing at the top of the game. He is also hungry as a young coach and I am sure he will have a positive impact on our squad, especially the younger players who he will be working with. There has been a lot of interest from players and agents about coming to Yorkshire Carnegie over the last few weeks since I arrived and we are confident of moving things forward over the coming days and weeks.”
